Artist Statement

The process of memory has always fascinated me. The dissonance between this abstract on-going-never-ending process and its tangible translation has been occupying my work right from the start. I study the relations between memory, history, and material both in terms of personal and collective memory. I look into ways social and national memory is formed, analyzing the manners society shapes individuals and vice versa. While doing so, I am constantly exploring the role of artists in the process of memory shaping. My role as an artist in shaping collective memory is my motivation for making art.

Printmaking is my primary work method, though I work in varied media creating also objects and sculptures; the echo of the concept of making prints can be recognized in all of my works. Having a strong theoretical foundation is a key element for me, leading to palpable research. Working in a trial and error method, I do not aim towards an endpoint or a specific answer but rather I am opening up the process to a discussion, creating a dialogue with my viewers.
